Sample whole word reading program.

Welcome to my blog and website!

I’m so glad you’re here. Whether you’re brand new to early education or just curious about the whole-word approach, you’ve taken a beautiful step toward nurturing your child’s potential. I invite you to take some time to explore old posts, get inspired by real-life examples, and dive into the joy of teaching your little one to read in a gentle, fun, and engaging way.

As a thank you for joining, you now have access to a free mini reading program based on one of the classic Thomas the Train books. This is a simple, low-prep way to try out the Doman-inspired method and see how your child responds.

Open to preview.

Here’s how to use it:

  1. Start with the single words.
    • Print them out and present 5–10 words at a time.
    • Show them in random order and shuffle the cards after each session.
    • Show each word a total of 15 times (for example, 3 times a day for 5 days).
    • After a word has been shown 15 times, retire it and replace it with a new word from the set.
  2. Move on to couplets.
    • After you’ve gone through all the single words, spend 2 weeks showing couplets made from the retired words (e.g., “blue engine,” “big train,” etc.).
  3. Then, introduce short phrases and sentences.
    • Spend 2 more weeks showing phrases and sentences using the words your child has already seen. Don’t overthink it—make up sentences on the spot or mix and match for fun.
  4. Finally, introduce the book.
    • Now your child has seen all the vocabulary in context. Read the adapted Thomas book by showing the bold words first, followed by the picture on the next page.
    • Enjoy reading it regularly and watch your child’s confidence grow!

This little journey can be your first glimpse into how playful and effective early reading can be. Have fun, and don’t forget—consistency and joy go a long way.

You’ve got this!
